A helmet with an identity crisis
Am I a shorty? Am I an open-face? This helmet can't decide. It looks like a shorty in the pictures, but don't let the description fool you. HJC's version of a "half-helmet" is quite literal. Take a full face helmet and cut it in half -- this is what you get. It's not a shorty by a long shot. The sides of the helmet cover the tops of my ears. On a true shorty your ears should be totally exposed. It's closer to being an open-face helmet than a shorty. Furthermore, it didn't provide a good fit for my wife or I and we used the measuring chart with a cloth tape to ensure accurate sizes when ordering. On my XXL helmet the chin strap was not even long enough to loop through the D rings. My wife's medium was WAY too large. Aside from her helmet fitting big, and mine feeling way too tight, it was really tight on the ears, to the point that we couldn't get our glasses on. Lesson learned: always try on helmets in a store first, then use a site like this to buy it at a cheaper price. The helmets also looked huge on our heads giving us that dreaded mushroom look - a common issue with HJC. The retractable sun shield was the selling point, but the bulkiness of the helmet, along with the improper fit) outweighs the cool-ness of the sun shield. Helmet City was easy to work with. Shipping to our house was fast and free. And nothing against HJC -- they make a fine product. We were just looking for true shorty helmets for hot weather cruising and this is certainly not what we expected or wanted.
