SA2025 is Snell’s current helmet standard for competitive automotive sports. It took effect on October 1, 2025. The standard covers performance testing for auto-racing helmets and includes accommodation requirements for frontal head restraint (FHR) attachments.
Snell publishes an active SA2025 certified-model list, so Helmet City links certification claims to the exact model rather than relying only on general manufacturer language. Always verify the specific model.
A newer standard does not automatically mean every event immediately rejects the prior one. Sanctioning bodies often define their own transition periods. Helmet City should never state that SA2020 is universally invalid unless the relevant rulebook confirms it.

FIA 8859-2024 is the FIA’s current Premium Helmet standard. The FIA publishes a dedicated technical list of helmets homologated to this standard, allowing buyers and scrutineers to verify approved models.
FIA 8860-2018 is the FIA’s Advanced Helmet standard. It is associated with higher-level motorsport applications and has a separate FIA technical list of approved helmets. Buyers should choose it when their competition regulations require it or when they are deliberately purchasing for an advanced professional setup.
FIA 8860 is an advanced standard for specific competition requirements. For many buyers, FIA 8859 or Snell SA may be the more appropriate and cost-effective choice.

Karting helmets should be selected from standards accepted specifically for kart racing. Snell currently identifies K2025 as its kart-racing standard, while the FIA publishes 8878-2024 as its current karting-helmet standard. Snell also maintains active lists for K2025 and K2020 certified karting helmets.
Key message: The helmets may look similar, but their intended standards and accepted uses are not interchangeable.

A helmet can meet an accepted racing standard and still require separate confirmation of FHR compatibility. Buyers must check whether the helmet includes factory-installed restraint anchors, accepts the correct posts, and works with the chosen tether system.
Helmet standards establish testing and homologation requirements. Your sanctioning body determines which standards, generations, helmet styles, and expiration periods are accepted for a particular event.
Your required certification depends on your racing organization or event rules. Many current motorsport helmets use SA2025 or FIA standards, but buyers should confirm the requirement before ordering.
If you use a head and neck restraint system, choose a helmet with factory-installed anchors or compatible restraint hardware.
Full-face helmets offer more facial coverage. Open-face helmets may be used in certain racing formats, depending on rules and preference.
Carbon helmets are often lighter and positioned as premium options. The right choice depends on your budget, racing use, fit, and required certification.
